Taig ER16 Collet Nut for ER16 collets.
The ER16 collet nut is a critical component to the ER16 holding system. Damaged nuts must be replaced.
ER collet nuts appear to be machined off center or damaged when looking inside the collet nut. This is how they are designed and this appearance is entirely normal for all ER series collet nuts. This offset creates a ridge that retains (holds) the collet when properly inserted into the nut. This internal ridge could be damaged by improper collect insertion and tightening of the nut.
First, snap the ER collet into the collect nut so the collet face is flush with the face of the nut. This does not require much force. The collet will stay in place when properly inserted. Then screw both the collet and nut together onto the spindle thread. Place the tool in the collet before tightening nut fully to the spindle.
The ridge holding the collet in the nut also ejects (pulls) the collet free from the spindle taper when backing off the nut to change bits. It called a self ejecting (freeing) collet system.
If the nut does not hold (retain) the collet, then the nut is damaged and must be replaced.
