KautzCraft 1" wrench fits Taig Mill - Spindle and Collet. The wrench is CNC machined from 0.25” 6061-T6 aluminum. Overall size is two inches by six inches. Just the right length for proper torque on the ER16 collet nut.
Aluminum is used because it prevents damage to the spindle and collet nut. Far better to have wear on the wrench than critical parts of the ER16 collet system. At the RDS workshop we have several sets of these wrenches used in pairs for many years. The wrenches show some wear but are far from worn out. No wear damage to the steel parts on the spindles.
The wrench is sized for a good fit to the collet nut. The spindle nut is actually a few thou' larger than the collet nut on our three Taig mill spindles. A few strokes with a file on the aluminum wrench will fine tune the fit. Far better for the tool to be made a bit undersize than too big.
